Fashion photography
I took photographs while Yve was filming her film. I used the Canon EOS 250D without a tripod. Her film is about energies an dhow people with lower energies get attracted to people with more influential energies and channeling ones spiritual energy. I took the pictures from a low angle to make the actors look powerful and superior. It made the clothes look more opulent. I read about how to take such shots on:

Fashion photography
I’ve booked Canon EOS 250 D from the media store to experiment with lighting and still imagery.
Model: Paola, stylist and director: Koi, hair and make up: Jessi photographed by me!
Styling for Jess’s film and assisting for Jessi’s film
I helped Jess to style and assist for a few things on the shoot location (Horley). I sourced outfits according to the character sketches and the references given by her – Kriti was assisting me! On the shoot days – the first day I was styling and assisting Jess. Kriti assisted me for half of the day. On day 2 I was the only stylist getting 4 actresses dressed up on time, helping decorate the sets and bringing coffee/ water for some of the cast & crew members. It turned out to be quite hectic because I was told there were two other people on the styling team and I didn’t know they wouldn’t be on set for the shoot. I thought I could assist and style thinking that it wont be very hectic. In terms of styling, I learnt that I should only participate in projects which involves professional actors and a producer on set. One of the actresses mishandled the clothes and damaged a couple of pieces, and a top worn by another actress was stinking so much that I couldn’t return it. After pack up she didn’t bother returning the clothes to me. I found them in a bedroom after looking for them for a while. Its unfortunate because Jess ended up paying for a top and I was questioned at Topshop about returning an used skirt. Up until then I’d never faced such problems. The actors and models are usually careful with the clothes because they know the products are supposed to be returned. Overall, it was a great experience!
Although, I couldn’t help much on the second day after pack up because I had to assist Laura and Jessi for Jessi’s shoot in Aldgate East. I packed up all the clothes and shoes in Firda, Jess and my bags & returned the props that we used to decorate the set which were borrowed from the owner of the house (who was literally the best Airbnb host I’ve ever seen) Jessi did’t have a proper team. As it was her first time directing a film, she was panicky. Laura was glad that I could make it to the shoot because I helped her with the lighting I could communicate in English since the rest of her team was Chinese. The next day Jessi shot the remaining half of her film at a studio in school. I helped them decorate the sets in the studio and figure out the lighting. Everything went well eventually. Had a fun time with everyone!
Editorial photoshoot : Experimenting with the versatility of a Sari
I collaborated with a photography student from LCC – Nemo, a BA make up student from LCF – Izzy, two models who I met at India Fashion Week in London – Lilly and Hira, Jessi, Fiorella, Firda, Yve and Ana for this shoot. My aim was to capture the grandeur, drama, versatility and adaptability of an Indian Sari.
Here are a few behind the scene images from the shoot :
24th November : Shoot day
The call time was 9 am for Jack, the lead actress – Niyati and me. Jack helped me set frames for shooting the film. He taught me about capturing the mood with a camera. I asked him how I could shoot the scenes where I wanted Niyati to seem powerful and confident.
I had one Arri 300 light which stopped working 30 minutes after we started taking the test shots. Then we managed to get table lamps from store rooms in my building so that we could shoot in good light. Lesson learnt – anything can happen on shoot day! we need to be prepared and keep going on somehow!
The first and the second scenes were easy to shoot as they were indoor. I wanted to capture Niyati looking nostalgic on her bed and answering a call from her friend. After that we shot on the staircase to show her leaving home confidently, these were difficult to shoot without the light. I changed the angles and frames that Jack and I decided on so that I could capture Niyati in a well lit frame. I tried to shoot in symmetrical frames as much as possible.
One of the most challenging shots were the ones in which Niyati had to get ready in front of the mirror. I had to make sure we didn’t capture any glares or reflections in the shot.
The outdoor scenes were not easy, as it was a Sunday, there were many people on the street. We shot at Marylebone lane near the Marylebone village. None of the cast and crew members – Niyati, Jess, Fiorella, Firda, Ana and Taanya are actors or filmmakers so we were all doing something for the first time and ended up having fun! Love them so much!! (Firda was holding the mic)
The overall experience was really good, I learnt so much about directing and filming! Also, that it’s not easy to do both the jobs, especially while shooting outdoors.
Set design for Fiorella’s fashion film
Yesterday I helped design sets for Fiorella’s fashion film. Joy and I worked together to achieve the closest result to the imagery that was referred to us by Fiorella. It was an amazing experience working with my friends from class. We sourced the props from National Theatre. I have never worked on – physically putting a set together. But working on this shoot has helped me understand a lot of things about the placement, renting and sourcing props, figuring out the angles and the importance of lighting while shooting a video. Fiorella organised everything very well and the experience was as good as one would get while working on a commercial project. Here are a few images of the sets that we helped her for:

- How to approach people for collaborations ?
- How to choose who are the apt people to work with?
- Does it help working with friends just because its easier? Would it affect the outcome?
- Should we collaborate with people we don’t fancy, but we like their work?
- Are disagreements good?
- While working on a collaborative project, till what extent should we step out of our creative comfort zone?
- Importance of giving credits.
