Tutorial with Andrew Tucker

Takeaways from the tutorial:

  • Researching on Indian crafts
  • Look up : Bout magazine, Colours (Benetton’s magazine)
  • Focus on Fashion, narrow it down to the fashion industry
  • Define audience further – NRI, Indians as well not just the Western audiences
  • Create reader profiles
  • Think practically, how can I curate content in a COVID 19 crisis world
  • Look up : Forbes Watson

How to start a magazine – The plan

I have been reading articles and guides on how to go about to create a magazine. The workflow is so important because it needs to be appropriately planned. These are the most relevant ones –

https://www.lucidpress.com/blog/how-to-start-magazine-online

https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/160238

https://medium.com/swlh/how-to-start-a-magazine-f510f14566c5

I summarised the content and drafted the following strategy –

  1. Developing a business plan – (Concept, audience, tone of the content)
  2. Researching the landscape
  3. Building my team (during production: creation & collaboration)
  4. Writing
  5. Editing
  6. Graphic design
  7. Shooting 360 degree videos
  8. Setting up an online store
  9. Digitize (web development)
  10. Prototype

Life during COVID 19

The whole situation is so overwhelming right now. I flew back to Mumbai on the 15th of March as India was closing its borders for everyone. I planned to come back home for easter break, I wanted to work with local artists and craftsman in India to record their stories and experiences. India is on a lockdown and we cant get out of the house and travel etc. So my plan of visiting these rural areas is on a hold for now. I have been trying to think of back plans and alternative ways to curate content because I don’t know when the situation will get back to normal.

BoF digital events

I attended an online talk on BoF during the lockdown with the editor in chief of Vogue Italia. They spoke about the effects of the COVID 19 crisis and how it would impact our community in particular. I realised how the global lockdown will eventually unite our community. Our generation has been taking our resources for granted with access to buying as many products they want, traveling anywhere in the world at any given point, etc. this pandemic has given us an opportunity to pause and reflect on our habits/lifestyle. After we come out of this pandemic we would come out stronger and united. We would come out of this as ‘us’ and ‘I’.

Learning how to make interactive video projections on Isadora

We learnt how make interactive videos that move according to changing sound levels and and movement of certain colours. I would like to use this software to create interactive projections by the use of moving body movements. i spoke to Dimitrios about this idea and he told me that one of my seniors have already tried this out which didn’t really turn out as planned. So i am trying to figure out a way to use this software to create interactive video projections that might me synced with the magazine.
